After pursuing this distinction for more than a year, St. David's Medical Center recently received a one-year provisional Accreditation for Adult Transthoracic Echocardiography from the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). Accreditation status signifies that St. David's Medical Center has been reviewed by an independent agency which recognizes the laboratory's commitment to quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.

St. David's Medical Center is encouraging patients to continue with cardiac rehabilitation following a heart attack or bypass operations. A recent study reveals people who complete cardiac rehabilitation are less likely to have another heart attack within the next few years than patients who complete fewer sessions. The study, led by Duke University scientists, was published in Circulation, a publication distributed by the American Heart Association.

St. David's South Austin Hospital today announced a $72-million capital investment for a renovation and expansion project to begin in April 2010. The expansion will increase the hospital by three floors, more than 100,000 square feet and 25 percent more beds.
