We extend our reach for providing life-saving care through St. David's Neonatal Intensive Care Transport Team. This service offers help and hope for babies who need the skill and technology of a Level III NICU, but are born at a facility that does not offer these services.
Our team of neonatologists, specially trained and certified registered nurses, and respiratory therapists travels throughout a 100-mile radius to bring newborns to our Level III NICUs, with STAR Flight providing air transport for critically ill babies. The area served extends south to New Braunfels, north to Temple, west to Llano and east to Bryan/College Station.
Our Neonatal Transport Team work to stabilize the baby's condition prior to traveling. Upon arrival, the transport nurse calls the referring facility to report on the status of the baby. Weekly updates are faxed to both the transporting hospital and doctor to keep them informed of their patient's progress.
Our Maternal Transport program supports transferring expectant mothers prior to delivery to St. David's HealthCare if the baby is premature or a medical problem is anticipated. In these cases, the baby benefits from immediate access to our Level III NICU after delivery. The St. David's Neonatal Transport Team provides 24-hour emergency transportation, and specialized care while en route.
